June 16 – 20

Crazy About Color

AM session, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., entering K – 2nd grades

Students will explore the color wheel and how colors interact with one another. They will use different kinds of paint to mix, match and create with color.

Puppets + Mask Making

PM session, 1:30 – 5 p.m., entering K – 2nd grades

Students will use their creative ideas as well as a variety of media to explore the art of puppetry and mask making.  We will use paper mâché, sculpture techniques, and much more to create unique puppets and masks.

June 23 – 27

Think Big

AM session, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., entering 3rd – 5th grades

Students will get messy as they explore creative paper mache sculpture design and mask making. Students will use a variety of form-building techniques to create gigantic sculpture and oversized masks using traditional and non-traditional media to complete their designs.

Blast Off (sold out)

PM session 1:30 – 5 p.m., entering 3rd – 5th grades

Travel beyond our galaxy! Students will design their own planets, build robot friends and paint beautiful galaxies as they explore outer space.

July 7 – 11

Mix it Up

AM session, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., entering K – 2nd grades

Students will explore and expand their creativity through a variety of media. They will experiment with paint, relief printing and collage techniques to create one-of-a kind pieces of art.

Arts Extravaganza

PM session, 1:30 – 5 p.m., entering K – 2nd grades

For the student who wants to try it all. Students will create 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional works of art including drawings, paintings and sculptures. The possibilities are endless and so is the fun!

July 14 – 18

Two Faced

AM session, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., entering 6th – 8th grades

Students will explore the tradition and creation of masks. They will use a variety of form building techniques and materials to create unique masks.

2-Dimensional Design

PM session, 1:30 – 5 p.m., entering 6th – 8th grades

Students will explore a variety of 2-dimensional media including printmaking, watercolor, drawing, painting and collage. Students will learn techniques to combine materials to create mixed-media compositions.

July 21 – 25

Drawing, Painting + Mixed-Media

AM session, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., entering 9th – 12th grades

Students will move closer to becoming the artists they have always wanted to be through experimentation. Students will explore a variety of mediums such as pencil, ink, charcoal, pastel, and different kinds of paint, printmaking, mixed media and more.

Asheville In Focus

PM session, 1:30 – 5 p.m., entering 9th – 12th grades

Students will explore the internal architecture of what makes a strong photograph using the city of Asheville. They will explore composition, creative aperture and shutter speed. Students who have cameras should bring them otherwise equipment will be provided.

July 28 – August 1

Color Your World

AM session, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., entering 3rd – 5th grades

Students will the color wheel and the endless possibilities of color interactions. Students will create one of a kind works of art using paint as well as other media to mix, match and create with color.

Visual Poetry and Story

AM session, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., entering 3rd – 5th grades

Students will create collage and write poetry. They will create stories and illustrations. They will find inspiration from the museum’s collection and through excursions into Asheville’s unique downtown art scene. Participants will end the week with a reading and art show for family and friends.

August 4 – 8

Pieces + Parts

AM session, 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., entering K – 2nd grades

Young students will have a blast exploring different types of collage. Drawing inspiration from the Museum students will create collage using colored paper, magazine clippings, found objects, printed papers and more.

Buildin’ Art

PM session, 1:30 – 5 p.m., entering K – 2nd grades

Students will explore the world of 3-D using conventional and non-conventional materials to create whacky and whimsical sculptures.
