Dick Mandell (1938- ) began his study of art in the sixth grade when he won a year's art courses at the Brooklyn Museum and participated in a student art exchange with Japan. He received his undergraduate degree at UNC in 1966. His works are rarely, if ever, preconceived ideas, but evolve naturally, with additions and deletions according to consideration of color, form, and the implication of subject matter. The final realization of the subject, however, is the deciding factor at all times.
