Elizabeth Olds (1896-1991) was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the first woman to receive the Guggenheim Fellowship to study painting abroad (1926-27). She worked as a painter and as an illustrator of children's books, including "The Big Fire" of 1945 (which was a Junior Literary Guild selection). Her lithographs addressed social issues, and she believed art should be physically and intellectually accessible to all people.
