Jack White (07/23/1931- ) was born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. He served in the Air Force for four years in the early 1950s and was stationed in North Africa. White enrolled in Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, earning a degree in art education in 1951. He spent most of his adult life living and working in New York State. In 1969, White moved to Syracuse and worked as the art director of the State University of New York Educational Opportunity Center. He taught at the Auburn Correctional Facility in 1972 and became the head of a nationally acclaimed painting program in 1973. White continues to teach at Syracuse University and at LeMoyne College (where he has been adjunct professor of painting since 1974).
