Michael McCoy (1945- ) is a partner in McCoy & McCoy Associates along with his wife, Kathleen McCoy. He is Senior Lecturer at The Institute of Design of the Illinois Institute of Technology and is a visiting professor The Royal College of Art in London. He was co-chair of the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Design alongside his wife for 23 years. He has received many awards for his interior, furniture and industrial design work for such clients as Knoll International, Formica Corporation and Philips Electronics, including the European Ergodesign Award in 1986 and the Industrial Designers Society of America IDEA Gold Award among others. His design strategies for interpreting technology and information have been featured in numerous publications including The New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. His work has been exhibited at the American Institute of Graphic Arts in New York, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Centre Pompidou and La Villette in Paris, the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles, Cranbrook Academy of Art Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Rio de Janeiro, the National Museum of Fine Arts in Buenos Aires, the Israel Museum in Jerusalem, the Cultural Palace in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the International Design Conference in Aspen and the University of the Arts in Philadelphia among others.
