Susan Plum (1944- ) was born in Houston, TX. She grew up in Mexico City and is influenced by the mythical, poetic and religious imagery of that culture. She studied at the University of Arizona and the University of the Americas and Pilchuck Glass School. She started as a painter but after the study of Eastern philosophy, travel to India, Nepal and Thailand, and study of the geomantic tradition of doswers, or those who divine water and energy lines, she chose flameworking as her medium of visual expression. At the same time, she drew from Carl Jung's definition of glass as solidified water or air, representing spirit.
