William Bernstein (1945- ) was born in Newark, New Jersey. He is known as one of North Carolina's foremost glass artists. Bernstein's works focus on pictorial imagery - form rather than surface. Between 1968 and 1970 he was an Artist in Residence at the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina. He has earned fellowships from the North Carolina Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Creative Glass Center of America, and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation. He has participated in exhibitions in the United States, Moscow, Japan, Austria, the Netherlands, and the Republic of Germany. His work is in the collections of the Corning Museum of Glass, the National Collection of Fine Art (Washington, D.C.), The Craft and Folk Art Museum (Los Angeles), and the Glasmuseum (Frauenau, Germany). Bernstein lives in Burnsville, North Carolina.
