William R. Lidh

William Lidh (1925-11/29/1999) was born in Elgin, Illinois.  He received a Bachelor's degree and a Masters Degree from the University of Wisconsin.  He was in the Navy during WWII. He taught art at public schools in Illinois, Wisconsin and Kansas.  Before coming to Western Carolina, Lidh taught printmaking, drawing and art education at Illinois State University for six years.  In 1963 he started working as an assistant professor at Western Carolina University; he retired in 1988.  He won second prize in a 1964 art exhibit at the Winston-Salem Gallery of Fine Arts for his woodcut "Garden of the Psyche." In 1985 Lidh participated in the National Printmaking Invitational at Florida State University.
