CLASSES & WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS
The Museum offers behind-the-scenes classes and hands-on workshops for adults. Classes, designed for anyone interested in learning more about specific topics, explore art and the art world. Local and visiting artists help students of all levels and abilities develop skills in media that reflect techniques and themes featured in special exhibitions and the Museum’s collection.
Mixing It Up: Drawing & Mixed Media
FEBRUARY 1, 8, 15, 22, MARCH 1 + 8 — Thursdays, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
Cost: $220 Museum Members, $240 non-members (includes some materials)
Ignite or expand your drawing skills by combining layers of mark-making with acrylic paint, collage, ink, transfer, and transparency, and by drawing on a painted three-dimensional object. Explore combinations of wet and dry media, practice unusual background treatments, and learn to edit your work using reductive techniques. Weekly classes include slide talks examining contemporary drawing as well as masters from art history, many from the Museum’s Collection; work sessions; and individual discussions with the instructor.
Instructor Pamela Lanza has an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Before relocating to Asheville, she taught at UC Berkeley Extension’s Post-Baccalaureate Art Studio program and San Francisco Art Institute for 20 years.
