JULY 21, 28 + AUGUST 4 — Saturdays, 1 – 5pm
Level: All levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced)

In this three-part class, expand your photography skills by exploring Asheville’s streets, architecture, and parks with your camera! Through shooting in town, discussion, and classroom time, students investigate what makes a photograph of a place compelling and how to bring a scene to life. Emphasis is placed on observation, experimentation, and learning to evoke the essence of a place. Topics include composition, depth of field, histograms, filtration, ISO, and equipment choices. Classroom time consists of editing, critique, demonstrations, and image enhancement using Lightroom and Photoshop. Students bring their own digital camera (smartphone, point-and-shoot, or SLR) and should have a working knowledge of how to operate it.

Instructor Benjamin Dimmitt graduated from Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, FL, and studied at the International Center of Photography in New York City, Santa Fe Photographic Workshop in New Mexico, and Santa Reparata Graphic Arts Centre in Florence, Italy. He taught for 12 years at the International Center of Photography in New York City and more recently at the Bascom Art Center in Highlands, NC. His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, the International Center of Photography and the American Academy of Arts & Letters in New York City, the Griffin Museum in Boston, and the Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans.

Space is limited; register by July 16. Click here to register now; for more information or to register by phone, call 828.253.3227 x122.
