Enjoy this season’s Pianoforte Concert feat. romantic works by Johannes Brahms« Back to Events
The Museum welcomes visitors and members to enjoy this season’s Pianoforte Concert on Sunday, February 24 at 3:00 p.m. in the Museum. The concert features a special performance of composer Johannes Brahms’ Liebeslieder ( Lovesong ) Waltzes, Opus 52 and 65. These popular waltzes are scored for four voices and four hands. As such, for this Pianoforte concert guests will enjoy a marvelous vocal quartette including: Lois (Lyte) Henrickson, alto/soprano; Gwenn Roberts, soprano/alto; Vance Reese, tenor; and Timothy Wilds, baritone. Accompanying on piano are two previous, acclaimed pianists of this special Museum concert series: Deborah Belcher and John Cobb.
Johannes Brahms began composing Opus 52 in 1868, and it premiered in late 1869. The waltzes were so popular with the general public that Brahms responded with the Opus 65 sequel, the “New Liebeslieder Waltzes“, five yeas later. Their popularity has held fast ever since and both sets have been performed by some of the world’s outstanding singers and pianists.
Limited seating. Advance reservations are highly recommended.
NOTE: Tickets are still available for this concert. However, we have temporarily suspended online ticket sales. In the meantime, please call 828-253-3227 or visit the Museum’s front desk during regular business hours for Pianoforte concert tickets. Thank you!
