John Heliker: The Inner Compass

Based on a series of interviews recorded with the artist in New York and Maine, this film explores John Heliker’s life and work, and includes reminiscences with contemporaries Lou Harrison and William Maxwell. A contemporary individualist who was never associated with any particular school, Heliker has been guided by what critic Jed Perl has called an “inner compass of certainty.” Rated: NR. 34 minutes.
