Henry Darger: Panoramas and Hyperbole — Lecture by Dr. Leisa Rundquist

East Wing | Upstairs Theatre
UNC Asheville students are admitted for free with student I.D.

Dr. Leisa Rundquist is Associate Professor at UNC Asheville where she specializes in modern and contemporary art and theory, as well as guest curator for Social Geographies: Interpreting Space and Place. Her research is primarily concerned with the intersections of childhood, religious piety, gender and race in the art of Henry Darger. In this lecture, Dr. Rundquist will explore several cultural influences that inform the sprawling and stormy landscapes in the art of Henry Darger. Her talk covers Chicago’s turn-of-the-century cycloramic entertainments and burgeoning industry of “instant” tragic histories as well as the artist’s own collection of resource materials from popular magazines.

Held in conjunction with Social Geographies: Interpreting Space and Place.
