Pierre Daura’s Transnational Modernism — Lecture with Lynn Boland
East Wing | New Media Gallery
Lynn Boland, Pierre Daura Curator of European Art at the Georgia Museum of Art, University of Georgia, will give a lecture for the exhibition Pierre Daura: Modernist in the Mountains. Pierre Daura (Catalan–American, 1896–1976) had a career that spanned much of the 20th century, reflecting a range of Modernist styles within his own unique aesthetic. Boland’s talk will examine Daura’s artistic and philosophical sources as they are reflected in the artist’s paintings of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Boland oversees the Pierre Daura Archive at the Georgia Museum of Art and recently organized a major exhibition devoted to Cercle et Carré (a group of abstract artists started in Paris in 1930, including Pierre Daura, Wassily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, Hans Arp, Fernand Leger and others).
Held in conjunction with the exhibition Pierre Daura: Modernist in the Mountains.
