Neighbors: Local Work from the Asheville Art Museum features artists living and working in and near Asheville. For over 100 years, the arts have shaped Asheville’s thriving community. A rich cultural heritage and beautiful environment attracted artists to the region. The resulting artistic community led to the development of the River Arts District, art galleries, college and university art departments, the Penland School of Crafts, museums, and art organizations. Dating from 1982 to 2010, these works selected from the Museum’s Collection demonstrate the dedication of artists currently living and working in this region who contribute to Asheville’s identity as an arts hub of the South.
Established by artists, the Asheville Art Museum is committed to collecting American art of the 20th and 21st centuries. The Museum would like to thank Premier Sotheby’s International Realty Asheville for collaborating to bring local art into the community while the Museum is undergoing its exciting transformation downtown at 2 S. Pack Square. Visit exhibitions at our pop-up location downtown (175 Biltmore Avenue) to learn more about the new Museum in Making It New and to view a selection of Western North Carolina glass art in Red Hot in the Blue Ridge.
