Red Hot in the Blue Ridge
May 19 - September 30, 2018
This exhibition is on view at the Asheville Art Museum On the Slope at 175 Biltmore Avenue.
The Asheville Art Museum presents Red Hot in the Blue Ridge, featuring glass from the Museum’s Collection. Glass as an art form emerged in Western North Carolina when several key artists established independent studios in the 1960s and began training students. Since then, the Museum has built its collection of exquisite glass thanks to major gifts of works by these illuminating artists and by seeking out inspiring work by the next generation of creators. This exhibition reflects both the impulse to collect glass as well as transformational contributions to the medium made here in Western North Carolina.
This exhibition is being held in conjunction with the community-wide Summer of Glass celebration.
Alongside this exhibition, we also have Making It New on view, which gives you a fascinating peek into the NEW Asheville Art Museum that is being constructed at 2 S. Pack Square — opening early 2019!
Groups of 10 to 20 students or adults are invited to schedule a visit to Red Hot in the Blue Ridge and Making It New. Our inquiry-based group visits, led by volunteer docents or Museum staff, challenge visitors to hone their observation skills.View selected works in the exhibition »
