Bruce Schlein

Bruce Schlein (01/28/1937- )  was born in Jersey City, New Jersey.  He graduated from a New Jersey high school in 1955, and studied at Columbia College of Columbia University in New York (B.A. 1959).  In 1963 he received an M.D. from the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine.  He became the Chief Resident and Instructor in Duke University's Pathology department in 1966, and has also served as a Lieutenant Commander for the U.S. Public Health Services. Schlein studied photography at Duke University with John Menapace, but was otherwise self-taught. He has taught photography classes at the Greenville County Museum School of Art, and enjoys conducting workshops when he has time.  Schlein has participated in many exhibitions and juried art shows, including "Asheville Exposed" at the Asheville Art Museum.  "Asheville Exposed" showcased photographs that Schlein took while walking throgh downtown over a seven month period in 1981.   Other exhibitions include Olden Photo Gallery, NYC; Furman University, Greenville, SC; UNC-Greensboro, Greensboro, NC.
