Brian Rutenberg (1965- ) is a graduate of the College of Charleston. He received an MA degree from New York's School of Visual Arts. In his work he seeks to capture a unique representation of the landscape through abstraction. He executes paintings that embrace spirituality, love of color and an obvious love of paint. In 1997 he received a Fulbright Scholarship which afforded him an opportunity to spend time in Ireland. He often talks about his greatest influence being the watery coastal environment around which he was raised: "the common thread running throughout all of my paintings and drawings is the subject of water which inspires everything from the rhythm and density with which I apply my pigments to the titles."
