Norm (Norman) Schulman (10/27/1924- ) attended Parsons School of Design, and earned a B.S. in Art from New York University. In 1958 he received an M.F.A. in Ceramic Design from New York State College of Ceramics (Alfred, New York). Schulman taught ceramics classes at the Toledo Museum of Art (1958-65). Then, he became an instructor and the head of Ceramics and Glass at Rhode Island School of Design (1965-77). He has been a Visiting Artist at the New York State College of Ceramics (1977), and at the State University of Iowa (1978). Between 1982 and 1984 Schulman was the Head of the Ceramics area at Ohio State University. Since 1978 he has operated Norman Schulman Studio in Penland, North Carolina. His works have been included in numerous exhibitions, the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, North Carolina; the Southeast Center for Contemporary Art in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, the North Carolina Museum of Art, and the Toledo Museum of Art. His works are in the collections of the Smithsonian Institution, the American Crafts Museum, the New York State College of Ceramics, Scripps College, the Mint Museum of Ar, and the Butler Museum of American Art.
