Hot Dogs, Roses and Georgia O’Keeffe
Toni M. Elkins (1946- ) is a painter and designer who works with watercolor, photography, and mixed media. She is also interested in silkscreen. Elkins feels her work appears "animated" but upon deeper evaluation the meaning behind the visual stimulation becomes more evident. She tends to deal with racial, cultural and political issues in her work. Oftentimes the work represents her personal feelings towards and personal experiences with such issues. Elkins has exhibited nationally and continues to do so. She has also been Superintendent of Fine Arts for the SC State Fair (1986-1996), Executive Director for SC Crafts (1991-1992) and was the designer for the Flying Scotsman-Mallard Collection. Recent awards include Merit awards from the Arizona Aqueous in Tubac, Arizona, Georgia Watercolor Membership Exhibit, Gainesville, GA, and Watercolor West, Riverside, CA. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Springfield Art Museum in Springfield, MO and Randolph Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, VA. Since 1986, Elkins has been owner and designer for Designs by Elkins.
