Valdir Cruz (1952- ) was born in Brazil but has lived in New York City since the mid-1980s. He was the recipient of a 1996 Fellowship from the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation. Cruz is internationally recognized as a humanistic photographer who has primarily focused on Brazilian themes in his work. A book, Faces of the rainforest: the Yanomami, with photographs by Valdir Cruz and text by Kenneth Good and Vicki Goldberg was published in 2002.
