Peter Alexander (1939- ) was born in Los Angeles. His works, which focus on exploration of light and its altering effects, have been exhibited widely.
His solo exhibitions include: ARCO Center, Los Angeles, CA (1983); Stephen Wirtz Gallery, San Francisco, CA (1984) and Van Straaten Gallery, Chicago, IL (1984). Group exhibitions include "New Media: New Methods, " Museum of Modern Art, New York City (1969); Documenta V, Kassel, Germany (1972); the 1983 Corcoran Biennial, Washington, DC; "The American Artist as Printmaker, Brooklyn Museum of Art (1983) and the "International Survey of Recent Painting and Sculpture," Museum of Modern Art, New York City (1984). Alexanders' works are in the permanent collections of the Brooklyn Museum, Museum of Modern Art, the Corcoran and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. He lives in Los Angeles and is regarded as one of the leaders of west coast contemporary art.
