Allen D. Carter (1947-2008) lived and worked in Washington, DC. His paintings include various elements from cartoons, classical European style, as well as 19th and 20th century styles ranging from expressionist. By using numerous styles, Carter conveyed diverse emotions and moods through his work. This expression is key to his art because Carter believed he can build narratives with his images. His bold palate, brushstrokes, and use of drip paint also adds to Carter’s striking forms and tones.
