John Steele ( - ) received his education at Alabama Polytechnic Institute and Louisiana State. He worked as a commercial artist and pottery designer before he became an artist and teacher at East Tennessee State College. His works are all landscapes in various stages of abstraction. His car or a truck. "Through Georgia by Car" and "Through Georgia by Truck". In these paintings the bright red of the truck or the bright yellow of the car contrasts with the subtle colors of the landscape. Swirls of color around the body of the truck or car gives a sense of motion.He has exhibited in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, New York, North Carolina and Tennessee. The Asheville Museum orf Art showed his works in 1965.
