Lonnie B. Holley

Lonnie Bradley Holley (1950- ) was born in Birmingham, Alabama. Sometimes known at The Sand Man, Holley is an African American artist and art educator. He was born the 7th of 27 children, and spent part of his childhood at the Industrial School for Negro Children in Mount Meigs, Alabama before running away to Louisiana where he started working as a short-order cook. Never completing the seventh grade in school, he says he educated himself by reading "National Geographic" magazines.
