The Merry One
Ruth Kerkovius (1921- ) was born in Latvia. She studied in Munich and worked at the Theatre Costume History and Design before moving to the United States. In the U.S. she studied at the Art Students League, the School of Visual Arts, and the Pratt Graphic Art Center. While at Pratt she won a fellowship which enabled her to continue studying there. She is best-known as creating still lifes and portraits. Her works have been featured in numerous print exhibitions since 1962. In 1964 her prints were included in several solo exhibitions across the country. Kerkovius' work is in the permanent collections of the Cincinnati Art Museum, Weslayan University, the University of Chicago, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum, and the Library of Congress.
