David Dawson (1955- ) creates paintings that tend to have straightforward arrangements of plain, geometric shapes in primary and secondary colors. According to the artist: "Through my artwork, I am critiquing the prejudices and conventions of art, language and ethnocentrism. I am employing language and aesthetic codes of modern and postmodern art as structural basis. I am disassociating letters, words and phrases by transposing them into simple geometric shapes and basic colors, thus calling into question the cultural meanings of these letters, words and phrases." He has had solo exhibitions at Zone One Contemporary in Asheville, NC, Galerie Ruth Sachse, Hamburg, Germany and Stephen Haller Fine Art in New York. He has been in group exhibitions throughout the country.
