Robert Hunter

Robert Hunter (05/17/1929- )  was born in Auburn, Washington.  According to the artist, he creates abstractions out of "an outer and inner space environment to suggest new relationships between our organic, inorganic and mechanistic world."  He makes drawings and paintings in colored pencil, graphite, watercolor and ink. He owned Workshop II Gallery and Studio in Greenville, South Carolina for 22 years, and then began teaching at Clemson University.   Hunter has won several awards including a Faculty Research Award in 1965 and 1982, and 19 exhibition awards and honors for his artwork between 1956 and 1991. His work has appeared in over 130 group exhibitions throughout the U.S., and over thirty solo shows in 39 years. He has works in public and private collections around the world including the Akron Art Center (OH), the Mint Museum of Art (NC), and the South Carolina Art Collection.
