Dr. George Edward Barksdale (08/13/1869-1959) studied at Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts Summer School in 1924, 1925 and 1926, and with William L. Shepherd and Herman Sodersten. He traveled to Europe in 1900, 1910 and 1922. Barksdale was a member of the American Federation of Artists and the Society of Independent Artists. In 1928 Barksdale's work was won a medal at an exhibition held by the Kenilworth Art Association of Asheville, North Carolina. His work is in the Antioch Church in Henrico County, Virginia. In 1935 his work was exhibited in the Asheville City Hall under the auspices of the Asheville Artists Guild.
