Film Screening, Guerrillas
in Our Midst This politically-pointed 1994 documentary presents a savvy exploration of the commercial art-world during its boom in the 1980s. The Guerrilla Girls have succeeded in putting racism and sexism on the art world’s agenda and their witty, creative tactics are showcased in this film by director Amy Harrison. Nancy Sokolove, artist and Adult Programs Manager for the Asheville Art Museum will give an introduction to the work of the infamous Guerrilla Girls and lead a brief discussion afterwards.
Guerrilla Girls Talk / Performance During this event, the famous feminist masked avengers will talk about their work, philosophy of activism while campaigning against an appalling lack of ethics in the art world.

Monkey Bizness with the Guerrilla Girls
Space is limited
for this event and advance registration is required. To register please contact Nancy Sokolove at the Asheville Art Museum, 828.253.3227, ext. 120. A founding member of the Guerrilla Girls will lead visitors through the chaotic process of brainstorming, collective give-and-take and larger group input that has helped these anonymous art activists perfect their in-your-face work during the past 20 years. As participants ‘aestheticize their anger,’ they may get some career advice about ethics and the art world along the way.
Film Screening, Orlando This 1992 Academy Award nominated film by director Sally Potter is an adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s 1928 novel about a woman who lives for four centuries, and experiences those first 200 years as a man. Tilda Swinton stars in this visually-rich feature about a person who transcends boundaries of sex, class and social mores.
