Pack Place Community Gallery
The Asheville Art
Museum, with the assistance of its volunteer docents,
partners with the Asheville Area Section of the
American Institute of
Architects each year
to sponsor the
Western North Carolina Regional
Scholastic
Art Awards.
Middle school and high school students from 20 counties and the City of
Asheville were invited to submit work for this special
juried competition.
The regional program is judged in two groups: Group I (grades 7-8) and
Group II (grades 9-12). The Museum
received more than
500 entries
from students in 21 schools across our region. The judges
carefully
viewed each entry, then selected Gold Key, Silver Key and
Honorable
Mention award recipients in the categories of Art Portfolio,
Ceramics
and
Glass, Computer Art, Design, Digital Imagery, Drawing,
Mixed
Media, Painting,
Photography, Photography Portfolio, Printmaking
and
Sculpture.
Out of all the
entries, 182 works were recognized by the judges and
will be on
view in the Pack Place Community Gallery from January 19
through February 17, 2008.
Works receiving Gold Key Awards will be sent to compete in the
National
Scholastic Art Awards Program. The winners of National level Scholastic
Art Awards will be invited to an award ceremony in New York City
and
will be included in a National Exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery in
Washington, DC this summer.
