The 2008 Western North Carolina Regional Scholastic Art Awards
are now
complete and our Regional Gold Key award winners and American
Visions award
nominees have been sent to the National Scholastic Art
Competition in New York.
Please view their artwork in online
gallery below.
The Scholastic Art Awards is a national program that
recognizes and encourages
young artists all over the country.
The Western North Carolina Regional competition takes place at the Museum
each
January and is open to students in Grades 7-12.
Independent judges select
work for a local exhibition and artwork receiving
Gold Key awards are then sent
to New York to
compete in the national competition.
To receive entry materials contact the School and Family Programs Manager at
(828) 253-3227 ext. 121.
In 2008, the Museum
received more than
500 entries from students in 21 schools
across our region. The judges
carefully
viewed each entry, then selected Gold
Key, Silver Key and
Honorable
Mention award recipients in the categories of
Art Portfolio,
Ceramics
and
Glass, Computer Art, Design, Digital Imagery, Drawing,
Mixed Media, Painting,
Photography, Photography Portfolio, Printmaking
and
Sculpture.
Out of all the
entries, 182 works were recognized by the judges and
were on
view in the Pack Place Community Gallery from January 19
through February 17, 2008.
The winners of National level Scholastic
Art Awards will be invited to an award ceremony
in New York City
and
will be included in a National Exhibition at the Corcoran Gallery in
Washington, DC this summer.
