The Art PLAYce got its first splash of color last week with local artist Aaron Tucker’s storybook-like installation. It was very heartwarming to watch Aaron work on this project with his step-sons… and so fun to see this space begin to take shape! Aaron shares his experience with us here:
I was very excited to have a chance to work on a second installation for the Asheville Art Museum. Both this wall piece and the one I worked on six years ago are scaled up versions of smaller cut paper designs. I have fully embraced the playful aspect of my work. It’s really about color and surface, flattened space, and simple, clean design.
Most of the work was done off-site through the winter. The final install went smoothly. Ben and Graham (my two proficient step-sons), worked tirelessly to help me get the work in place.
This museum looks fantastic. I absolutely cannot wait until the doors re-open. It’s such an honor to have a piece in Art PLAYce. I couldn’t be happier about it. My hope is that the kids who visit can enter into that corner and feel like they are in another world. They can bring their imagination to it and really make it come to life.
My next project is for Mission Hospital. I am always working on new paintings in the studio. Mostly you can find me on Instagram or my website.
The Art PLAYce will provide creative, interactive opportunities for all ages. Activities will range from three-dimensional building projects to crafts inspired by the Museum’s Collection. Stay tuned to the blog and follow us on Facebook and Instagram for more Museum updates!
