Barbara Fisher

Barbara Fisher (1950- ) was born in New York City and grew up in New Jersey. Her abstract paintings can usually be recognized by a division of the canvas into rectangles. Each space is used for exploring geometrical, botanical, and even anthropodal shapes. Thus, Fisher’s paintings have both a rhythmic and exploratory quality. Fisher comments that her work reflects "my ongoing exploration of the visual and psychic tension inherent in the space in between: the subtle realms of consciousness and perception where what is seen and what is intuited come into conflict." Fisher has had solo exhibits mainly on the west coast and group exhibits all over the country. She has won several awards including the Gold Discovery Award from Art of California magazine, Best of Show at the Toe River Arts Council Fall Exhibition (NC), and a Eureka Fellowship from the Mortimer Fleishhaker Foundation. Her paintings are in the permanent collection of the Bank of America, the Union Pacific Bank, First Charter Bank, and the Asheville Art Museum. She resides in Asheville, NC.
