Ellen Zahorec (08/13/1949- ) received a B.F.A. in art from Kent State University. She earned an M.F.A. in art in 1981 from University of Tennessee. Zahorec, who works in mixed media, has worked as a full time artist and as an art instructor at Warren Wilson College, Asheville-Buncombe Technical College and the University of North Carolina at Asheville. She has participated in exhibitions across the United States and abroad. Zahorec curated the exhibition entitled "Paper U.S.A.: 13 Southern Visions," that premiered in Tampere, Finland. She traveled to Finland in conjunction with the exhibit and conducted a four-day workshop for 15 professional artists. One of her pieces was presented to King Hassam II and is housed with his collection in the Fez Museum. In 1989, Zahorec earned a Best-in-Show award at the Faber Birren Show in Stamford, Connecticut. She currently lives and works in Brevard, North Carolina.
