Adult Studio: Natural Dye Workshop
Inspired by the current exhibition Flora Symbolica: The Art of Flowers, we will explore the historical stories of a variety of natural dye plants, while creating a collection of naturally dyed napkins to take home. Learn how to make the rainbow from locally grown dye plants and explore a couple of surface design techniques, creating botanical prints from natural dye flowers as well.
About the Teaching Artist:
Melanie Wilder is a weaver, natural dyer, and explorer of material and process. She has spent the past 20+ years dedicated to learning and teaching, living in the Asheville area where she currently runs the fiber program at Warren Wilson College. She is interested in exploring how process crosses into our daily lives, and how intentional choices can help shape our footprint on the future. This involves the yearly rhythm of growing fibers and dyes and how the textiles made from these plants creates ritual and meaning.

Adult Studio
Local and visiting artists help students of all levels and abilities develop skills in media that reflect techniques and themes featured in the Museum’s Collection and special exhibitions. Classes are designed for anyone interested in exploring specific media in depth or introduce new media and processes.
Refund policy for Adult Studio: Unless otherwise noted, refunds for ticketed/paid adult programs will be made if a request is submitted in writing at least two weeks before the scheduled program.
