Contemporary African-American Art + Artists

Date:
Friday, March 30, 2018
Time:
9:00 am - 12:00 pm

MARCH 30, APRIL 6, 13 & 27 — Fridays, 9am – 12pm
Instructor: Kristi McMillan, Adult Programs Manager

Through slides, videos, instructor overviews and assigned readings, discover African-American artists working today and explore themes treated in their work. In this discussion-based course, participants actively participate in frank, sensitive, and sometimes uncomfortable dialogues that lead to deeper understanding of the artists’ experiences and those of their own. As American artist Alex Grey said: “When artists give form to revelation, their art can advance, deepen, and potentially transform the consciousness of their community.”

Space is limited; registration is required. For more information or to enroll, visit olliasheville.com or call 828.251.6140.

Presented in partnership with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UNC Asheville.
