Matt Jones had his first introduction to clay while attending Earlham College in Richmond, IN. Wanting to further his education in the craft, he continued to develop his skills while apprenticing for Todd Piker in Cornwall Bridge, CT from 1994 to 1997 and Mark Hewitt in 1997. After moving to Leicester, NC’s Big Sandy Mush Valley in 1998, he became a member of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild and has exhibited his work at the North Carolina Pottery Center, Blue Spiral 1, the Mint Museum, among others. Jones’ Star Wars Trilogy pots, prominently displayed in the Museum’s Windgate Foundation Atrium and featuring symbolic commentary on the politics and economy of our time, are a favorite of visitors. Join us for conversation with Jones as he discusses a history of his work including the Star Wars pots, before telling us about his more recent work.
