The Asheville Art Museum is close to concluding a two-year project documenting and stewarding more 6,000 records pertaining to two of North Carolina’s most significant architects: Richard Sharp Smith (1853 – 1924) and Douglas D. Ellington (1883 – 1960). These collections are authoritative, spanning both architects’ careers, and contain materials that document their significant contributions to the architectural fabric of Asheville and the broader Western North Carolina region.

Join Elizabeth Brauneis, IMLS project registrar, for an informative talk on how to access these architectural materials on the Asheville Art Museum’s online collection database and how to search these documents for useful information. The presentation will include a behind-the-scenes viewing of materials from the Ellington and Smith collections prepared for this event only.

This program, and the work being conducted to preserve and share the Smith and Ellington collection, is made possible through funding from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS).

Space is limited; registration is required.
