CANCELLED Pen + Ink: The User-Friendly Medium
SEPTEMBER 13, 20, 27, OCTOBER 4 + 11 — Thursdays, 6 – 8:30pm
Instruction hours: 12.5
Level: All levels (beginner, intermediate, advanced)
This class has been cancelled.
In this five-part class, overcome your trepidation around the “permanence” of ink drawing and learn to embrace the huge potential of this versatile medium! Become familiar with different types of pens (bamboo, stick, quill, markers), learn to use brush and wash, and explore the complete repertoire of line-making including gesture, contour, hatching, developed or “worked-over” lines, and freestyle or “searching” lines. Study wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques using washes. Broaden your experience of drawing to expand upon realistic rendering, and introduce more expressionistic means of working that carry over into all forms of painting and advanced drawing.
Instructor Pamela Lanza has an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. Before relocating to Asheville, she taught at UC Berkeley Extension’s Post-Baccalaureate Art Studio program and San Francisco Art Institute for 20 years. Her artwork has been exhibited at the Graduate Theological Union (Berkeley), UNC Asheville, Florida State University, California Institute of Integral Studies, and Stanford University.

Adult Studio
The Museum's studio program for adults offers a core curriculum in drawing, painting, printmaking, and three-dimensional media, and also explores the intersections between them. Local and visiting artists help students of all levels and abilities develop skills in media that reflect techniques and themes featured in the Museum’s Collection and special exhibitions. Classes meet for 3–12 weeks, and are designed for anyone interested in exploring specific media in depth; daylong workshops introduce new media or processes.
