Every Third Thursday, the Museum comes alive with an evening filled with music, tours, art making activities and more! This month we are celebrating Western North Carolina Educators. Teachers of all grade levels and subject areas are invited to view the Museum’s current exhibitions, attend public programming and learn more about the Asheville Art Museum’s resources for teachers.

Art Making Activity for Educators with Artist Devyn Vasquez • Educators are invited to drop into the Museum Studio anytime between 5-8pm and complete an Art Making Activity with local teaching artist, Devyn Vasquez. Devyn will guide local educators in creating weighted eye pillows to promote relaxation and self-care.
Devyn Vasquez is an artist with a multi-disciplined practice that is centered around jewelry, textiles, and woodworking. They spent two years at Penland School of Craft as a Core Fellow before moving to Asheville in 2020. Outside of their artistic practice, Devyn enjoys facilitating community-centered events.

In Conversation and Book Signing with Tom Patterson • Join Tom Patterson—editor, independent curator, and author of Way Out There—for a lecture about his book, along with a book signing. The lecture will be followed by a 15-minute Q&A session.
About the Speaker: Tom Patterson is a writer, editor, and independent curator who has long been based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. His books include St. EOM in the Land of Pasaquan, Howard Finster, Stranger from Another World, and The Tom Patterson Years: Cultural Adventures of a Fledgling Scribe. His writings have appeared in afterimage, American Crafts, Aperture, ARTnews, Art Papers, BOMB, Folk Art, and New Art Examiner. A frequent, longtime contributor to Raw Vision, the London-based international outsider-art journal, he is also a former editor of North Carolina’s Arts Journal, and a former visual-art columnist for the Charlotte Observer and the Winston-Salem Journal. He has curated exhibitions for the American Visionary Art Museum, the Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, and the College of Charleston’s Halsey Institute for Contemporary Art, among other visual-art institutions.

Live Music with Alex Travers • This artists’ explosive performances are shaped by his diverse background in both classical and metal/rock music, honed through years of intense multi-genre experience. A Raleigh native and Appalachian State University graduate, his passion for baroque music and pedagogy has significantly influenced his artistic development.
Each third Thursday, the Museum and community partners offer fun events for adults to socialize through interactive art-related activities, delicious drinks, and tasty treats.
