John Alexander Harrison Noble (1913-1983) was born in Paris, France. He studied at the Friends Seminary, the University of Grenoble in France, and at the National Academy of Design. He was known as a marine painter and lithographer. He had a solo exhibition at the Staten Island Museum in 1952. Noble was commissioned to produce prints for shipbuilding, stevedoring, tugboat, and industrial firms. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Carnegie institute, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Mariner's Museum, the New Britain Museum of Art, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum.
