The Frances Mulhall Achilles Art Library at the Museum houses over 10,000 books and other archival material relevant to the Museum’s Collection of 20th- and 21st-century American art.
The Art Library is temporarily closed until further notice.
The Art Library is one of the largest resources of art publications in the region and is regularly used by staff, visitors, students, and scholars. An extensive collection of pamphlets published by galleries and museums—numbering over 2300—is one of the Art Library’s especially valuable resources. The Art Library’s collections are non-circulating and are accessible to Museum staff, Members, and visitors.
The Art Library is open by appointment for Museum Members and ticketed visitors. Please email Chris Whitten, assistant registrar, or call 828.253.3227 x131 for more information or to make an appointment.
