Virtual Visits for Families
Family and friend groups with children are invited to schedule an interactive Virtual Visit to the Museum! Led by volunteer docents with Museum staff, our inquiry-based, conversational Virtual Visits introduce the Museum’s galleries with a 3D tour and challenge participants to hone their observation skills.
Virtual Visits for families are $50 for 5–25 participants participating from one or multiple devices through Zoom or Google Meet. Virtual Visits for families are available Saturdays 9am–4pm, and last 40–45 minutes. At least two weeks’ advanced notice is required.
On the request form, groups may choose a topic from among four subject-based Virtual Visits (see below), or one of our special exhibitions; participants will be provided with a video link for a related, grade-appropriate artmaking activity.
- Discovering Art: This Virtual Visit focuses on looking at artworks through the lens of the elements of art and principles of design (like color, shape, texture, etc.), using visual-arts and museum vocabulary.
- See & Say: This Virtual Visit uses language arts and communication skills to explore visual art, making connections to descriptive and narrative writing techniques and parts of speech.
- More Than Math: This Virtual Visit uses mathematical concepts to explore visual art, identifying similarities and differences in lines, shapes, and patterns.
- Intersections in American Art: This Virtual Visit focuses on the Museum’s Collection of American art of the 20th and 21st centuries, exploring the connection between art and artists of WNC/Southern Appalachia and the US at large.
