Dear friends of the Museum,
Early in the pandemic, when we first closed, I wrote that the few of us working onsite were bereft to see the galleries dark and empty of visitors. Your Museum was designed to be a center of community—to be a welcoming place for all—and it comes alive through our interactions with one another around the great art on view.
It’s been truly wonderful to see Members and visitors at the Museum enjoying exhibitions, programs, or a meal and beverage in Perspective Café. I hope to see many more of you, your families, and your guests in the upcoming weeks. We have lots for you to see and do.
Don’t miss a final visit to be inspired by the luminescent works in Beauford Delaney’s Metamorphosis into Freedom. In advance of the delayed opening of the Tokyo Olympics scheduled for late July, we have three Olympics-themed exhibitions opening that will certainly whet your appetite for the games. Drawn from the Museum’s Collection, this trio of exhibitions includes works in all media including the recently acquired extraordinary photographs of Walter looss Jr. These exhibitions are sure to delight the whole family. Additionally, in-person adult and family artmaking programs are back in full force. Check out the events calendar for the many opportunities to work together and get your creative juices flowing.
While things aren’t “back to normal”—and none of us are quite sure yet what “normal” will ultimately look like—we’re committed to making your visit safe, energizing, and inspirational. We do know that the process will remain fluid as we continue to follow best practices for your comfort and safety.
As this very difficult fiscal year comes to an end on June 30, please consider contributing to the Annual Fund. The Annual Fund provides essential support for our exhibitions, educational programming, staff, interns, and more. The Annual Fund has never been more important than now. Likewise, please renew or upgrade your membership when the time comes, and please consider gifting memberships to those you know and love. Membership is the gift that keeps on giving year-round, providing free access to the Museum, events, and discounts all year long!
I look forward to seeing you in person and to sharing great art and great experiences. It’s been far too long.
