The Asheville Art Museum wishes you a wonderful and bountiful Thanksgiving! In honor of Tom the Turkey, this week’s work is The Faith by Louis Monza.
Louis Monza (1897-1984) was born in Italy and immigrated to the United States at age 16. Monza grew up in the California area. Following a spinal injury in 1938 he began working full-time as an artist. He was a painter, printmaker and did ceramic and bronze sculpture. He was a regular exhibited artist in New York. The decorative detail, dramatic color, and volumetric, exaggerated forms in The Faith are a signature of Monza.
Monza preferred that viewers freely interpreted his works. Does this painting get you in the holiday mood?
