A conversation in the exhibition Flora Symbolica focused on Lubelski’s 2024 mixed media fiber work, Granny Glamour with the artist and the Museum’s Associate Curator Jessica Orzulak.

Asheville-based artist, Nava Lubelski’s work focuses on the nexus of impulsive destruction and thoughtful mending. Her work Granny Glamour is a large triptych made from floral bed sheets, found in the collection of a deceased grandmother, complete with age-related damage, then repaired with embroidery, needle lace, and other decorative restoration. The context of the piece is the idea of glamour of the 1960s and 70s and reexamining of aesthetics that are marginalized because of associations with aging, family environments and motherhood.

Registration is not required.
