Dale Chihuly (09/20/1941- ) was born in Tacoma,Washington. His blown glass is well known all over the world. In the mid 1960s he trapped illuminating gases such as neon and argon in glass to produce an element of movement in his artwork. His more recent pieces can be categorized as either functional or sculptural, and are frequently compared to sea urchins, shells, and other natural forms. Chihuly was a recipient of the Louis Tiffany Comfort Foundation Award, and a Fulbright Fellowship that allowed him to study in Murano, Italy. Chihuly has taken part in exhibitions and showings in the United States, France, Chile, Australia, and many other places around the world.
