Katherine Bernstein

Katherine Bernstein (1945- ) was born in Newark, New Jersey.  Often working in cast glass, the artist states that her work focuses not on the the objective figure itself, but on the subjective essence of the figure.  She was an Artist in Residence at the Penland School of Crafts in Penland, North Carolina from 1968 to 1970. Bernstein has participated in exhibitions in Canada and the United States. She was one of several participants in the North Carolina Glass Community show that traveled through Germany, Austria, and the Netherlands. Her works are in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution, the Hokkaido Museum of Modern Art (Sapporo, Japan), and the Chrysler Museum (Norfolk, VA).  The artist lives in Burnsville, North Carolina.
