Harvey Littleton (1922- ) was born in Corning, New York. His father was the Director of Research at the Corning Glass Works. Littleton started his career as a ceramic artist until in the 1960s he discovered that glassblowing could be carried out in small art studios and did not need to be confined to factory production. Littleton is considered the founder of the Studio Glass Movement. He set up the first studio glass course at the University of Wisconsin in Madison in 1963.
